Art Instructor – Jeremy Farson

Hillcrest to Balboa Park- To find inspiration for this exhibit we visited the café and walked the neighborhood, finally ending up at the Museum of Art in Balboa Park. Students were asked soak up the atmosphere and document the experience by taking photographs and creating drawings in their sketchbooks. These artworks are a response to what my 50 high school seniors experienced that day. They were asked to produce a design, first by collaging images they gathered into a thoughtful composition and then create paintings from the designs. Each student was encouraged to pursue their own aesthetic sensibilities to create art that expressed and tested their skills and captured the feeling of the neighborhood and the cafe life.
