Event Description
TRAVIS PARKER presents AN EXHIBITION FEATURING WORKS by JERMEY FARSON - Jeremy Farson is a very prolific San Diego artist. He earned his MFA in Painting in 1994 and has been the owner and operator of the Cassius King Gallery in downtown San Diego since June 2003. He has completed commissions for the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, DC, Sharp Hospital in San Diego, and the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas, just to name a few. Farson has also created artwork for various companies like Virgin Records, Nokia, and Merck Pharmaceuticals and he’s had several solo exhibitions up and down the West Coast. In the words of the artist while preparing for this exhibition, Farson states, “The focus of this exhibit is shoes. I am painting primarily women from the knee down and their precious shoes. It is sort of a glamour thing that I think will work well in a salon environment. I may include some clusters of small, intimate paintings and drawings of a more sexual nature, but I think the theme is basically, vanity.” Working from fashion spreads, TV imagery, and personal snapshots, Farson creates a distinctive brand of Cosmopolitan Pop. Farson’s signature feathering technique, which gives his surfaces a soft-focus fuzziness, smoothes out any rough edges and provides a nice soft surface. The soft look of his images, coupled with a complexity of understanding, provides the viewer with very evocative atmospherics. Farson tackles large themes and makes them into cogent pictorial forms. According to art critic Robert L. Pincus, “Farson's paintings aren't answers. They are simply symbolic images that linger in the mind and leave each viewer to ponder aspects of their past and the present they envision.” Since Farson is creating pieces specifically for this exhibit, it is going to be a very exciting showcase of his work!
